Raised outside Houston by Korean immigrant parents, BettySoo grew up on the Great American songbook, country radio, and the legacy of Texas song. 2009’s “Heat Sin Water Sin,” produced by Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves), built her international audience, with 2014’s “When We’re Gone,” with Brian Standefer (Alejandro Escovedo), placing her firmly in the first rank of songwriters.  Her songwriting collaboration with Rebecca Loebe and Grace Pettis led to their forming the beloved trio Nobody’s Girl, with a celebrated eponymous release from Lucky Hound Music.

Betty Soo has won the awards: Kerrville, Big Top Chautauqua, Sisters, Mountain Stage; played the festivals: multiple SXSW’s, Kerrville, Calgary; done the radio shows: E-Town, Mountain Stage, Wood Songs, BBC2 Bob Harris.  In the musical fantasyland of Austin, she’s known as an A-list harmony vocalist and arranger, whether for the live stage or a studio session, backing up artists like Eliza Gilkyson, James McMurtry, Bonnie Whitmore, Charlie Faye, and others.  During the pandemic lockdown, she cut a distinctive path through the streaming landscape with her unique Nobody’s Happy Hour zoom shows.

Betty Soo tours nonstop; these days you’ll find her on the road both solo and as first-pick support for artists like James McMurtry and Chris Smither.  As always, Betty Soo’s approach invites authentic connection, fosters compassion, and merits listening.
